Shaun is not just any piano teacher; he is a dedicated musician with a rich background, extensive experience, and a fervent passion for teaching the piano. His journey with music began at a young age, setting the foundation for a lifelong commitment to the art of piano playing and education.
Background
Shaun’s love for the piano was evident early on. Growing up in a musically-inclined family, he was introduced to the piano at the age of four. His mother, who is a piano teacher, nurtured his interest and provided him with formal training. Shaun’s formative years were filled with practice, recitals, and performances that honed his skills and deepened his appreciation for music.
Experience and Qualifications
Shaun’s qualifications are a testament to his dedication and expertise. He holds a Bachelor’s with honours degree in Music from LASALLE College of the Arts. During his time at the university, Shaun studied under renowned pianists like Tan Wei Xiang, Joshua Wan,Chok Kerong and Christine Sham. His experience extends beyond formal education. Shaun has been teaching since 2015, during which he has worked with students of all ages and skill levels. He has taught in various settings, including music schools (Vienna Music School and Praise Music School), private lessons, and primary schools (Bedok Green Primary School).
Shaun’s students have consistently achieved high marks in examinations including 1 distinction and 4 merits across both ABRSM and Rockschool examination boards and have gone on to perform in recitals. One of his students, Colin, has achieved second prize in the original music category in the 2023 online Vivaldi Music Competition. In addition to his teaching career, Shaun is an accomplished performer. He has given solo recitals since age 14, played live music at various bars (Warehouse and The Inn Livehouse) and events (NUSS Guildhouse 2020 New Year’s Eve). Shaun’s band has also won 1st runner-up in the 2019 Band Blast Competition. His performance experience enriches his teaching, as he brings real-world knowledge and a deep understanding of musical expression to his students.

Sometimes, He uses software that grades a student’s playing, which makes learning piano more effective and motivating and creates a gamified learning experience.
Shaun is known for his patience, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with his students, making each lesson a positive and rewarding experience. Moreover, Shaun is always seeking to improve his teaching methods. He regularly attends workshops like “Muso Music Academy” teachers’ workshop to stay updated with the latest pedagogical techniques and trends. This commitment to lifelong learning ensures that his students receive the highest quality instruction.
